Charlie Purvis, M.ED, Resident in Counseling (he/they)

As a transgender and neurodivergent individual, I understand how difficult it can be to find affirming, competent care. With me, you are seen, heard, and supported. Each and every person that comes into my office is unique, and our work together should reflect that.

I am a Resident in Counseling and practice under supervision. I am also under supervision to become an AASECT certified Sex Therapist with Brooke Croft, LMFT, CST, founder of Croftwell Therapy. I proudly hold memberships with organizations that are furthering equity and affirming care for LGBTQIA+ populations.

I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Clemson University, and my Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Winthrop University.

When I’m not in the therapy office, I enjoy volunteering with AFSP, trying new recipes, reading, crafting, playing D&D, and annoying my loving partner and our cat.

My Values

Cultural Humility

While I do hold marginalized identities, different aspects of who I am afford me privilege. Committing to understanding and learning about cultural and lived experiences that are different from my own is a core part of my work.

Community Advocacy

My work does not start and end in the office. Offering education and services to the community provides an invaluable connection in a time where many feel isolated. Advocating in social and political spaces for the interest of my clients, and our communities, is a privilege.

Affirming Care

You are the expert of your life. I will walk beside you regardless of who you are or who you love.

Continued Education

The field of counseling and psychology is rapidly evolving. It is irresponsible and dangerous to not seek out information in order to provide the most accurate and beneficial care.

Personalized Care

You are a complete and unique individual, and your care should match that. From start to finish, your care is tailored to meet you where you are and to address your unique needs.

Ethical Care

The vulnerability that comes with mental health care is daunting. Knowing that the space is confidential, with your best interest at the heart of every conversation, allows you to feel safe, heard, and supported.
