About Gender Dysphoria
Gender dysphoria is different from simply not following stereotypical gender behaviors. It involves feelings of distress due to a strong, lasting desire to be another gender (or no gender at all). The recommended treatment for dysphoria is affirmation. This can take place in the form of social transition, medical transition, or simply just allowing for exploration in a safe environment.
People who have gender dysphoria often are the targets of discrimination and prejudice, which can lead to minority stress. Without proper support and care, many gender-diverse individuals are at increased risk for mental health struggles and suicide.
