Resource Spotlight: Everywhere Is Queer
As a queer and trans person, I know how important it is to find spaces where you feel welcomed, respected, and able to be your authentic self. Whether it's a healthcare provider, a local business, or a place to spend time with others, knowing that a space is safe and affirming can make a huge difference.
That's why this month’s resource spotlight is about Everywhere Is Queer (EIQ).
Everywhere Is Queer began with the question “Where are the queer spaces?” In 2021, while traveling across the country, founder Charlie Sprinkman noticed how difficult it was to find LGBTQIA+ owned and affirming spaces. Finding a welcoming place meant searching endlessly online, relying on word of mouth, or hoping to stumble across a space by chance.
Everywhere Is Queer is a directory app that helps people find LGBTQ+ owned and affirming businesses, services, and spaces. It makes it easier to intentionally support the queer community while also helping LGBTQIA+ folks find places where they can feel a greater sense of belonging.
For many queer and trans people, finding affirming spaces isn't just about convenience, it's about safety, connection, and being able to exist without having to explain or defend who you are. Having access to communities and businesses that openly celebrate LGBTQIA+ identities can be an important part of support and connection.
I appreciate Everywhere Is Queer because everyone deserves spaces where they can be seen, valued, and accepted. Building a supportive community around yourself can be an important part of caring for your mental health.
If you're looking for LGBTQIA+ affirming spaces in your area, I encourage you to check out Everywhere Is Queer and explore the communities that are available to you!
